Ifton Colliery Anniversary Coin

Ifton Colliery Anniversary Coin

Medals UK was proud to produce the Ifton Colliery Anniversary Coin to mark 50 years since its closure.

Ifton Colliery was located in the district of St Martins in Shropshire. Ifton Colliery shaft was sunk in 1913 and it went into full production in 1921. At its peak Ifton employed 1,300 men and it was the largest coal mine in Shropshire. In 1968 the Colliery closed its doors for good. 2018 will mark the 50th year since the closure. Ex-miners commissioned the coin to raise money towards the ongoing Ifton Colliery Commemorative Project. The proceeds will see a two-metre tall sculpture of a miner placed in the village’s Memorial Garden to mark 50 years since the closure of the pit.

The 50mm bespoke double-sided coin is in bronze with a minted bright finish. The obverse features a portrait of a miner and the reverse an image of the Colliery as it was before the closure.
